Absheron, land of fire.

Visit the fire temple at Ateshgah, add Ramana Castle if access and time allow, then continue to Yanardag for the flames towards dusk. The destinations are outside central Baku and require road transport.

A driver or organised trip is the simplest option. Public transport needs separate journeys via Baku transport hubs and extra time; do not plan to walk between sites.

Ramana is optional and may not be accessible inside. Confirm entry arrangements with each venue. Agree your return transport and waiting time in advance; a castle extension to Mardakan and Gala needs a longer day.

Places along the way

  1. Ateshgah Fire Temple

Ateshgah brings fire, trade routes and several religious traditions together in a courtyard complex.

  2. Ramana Castle

    Optional extension

Ramana's stone tower stands above an Absheron landscape shaped by both fortifications and oil.

  3. Yanar Dag (Burning Mountain)

At Yanar Dag, gas escaping through the hillside feeds a line of flames.
