Villa Petrolea connects Baku's oil history with the Nobel brothers' Branobel company. The restored house-museum formed part of an estate associated with that business, in the area historically known as the Black City.

The setting has changed as the surrounding White City district has been redeveloped. That contrast between a historic villa and a changing urban landscape is part of what makes the place interesting. It offers a different perspective from the oil-boom mansions in the centre of Baku. Before travelling, check the museum's current visiting arrangements, particularly if you want to enter the house rather than simply explore its setting from public areas.
