Bibi-Heybat Mosque is both a place of worship and a pilgrimage site. The present mosque was rebuilt in the late twentieth century, after the earlier building was destroyed during the Soviet period. The shrine is traditionally associated with Ukeyma Khanum.

Its domes and coastal setting make it a recognisable landmark, but its religious life comes first. Allow worshippers their space, dress respectfully, and follow signs or guidance from staff. Visiting access may depend on prayer times and local arrangements. If you come to appreciate the architecture, give the same attention to the atmosphere of the place and to the people for whom it has a personal meaning.
