The Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum announces its subject before you enter. Its building on the Boulevard has the form of a rolled carpet. That playful shape introduces a craft with many regional patterns and techniques.

Inside, the collection explores carpets, textiles and the work behind them. Instead of trying to remember every pattern, choose a few to compare. Look at how geometric shapes repeat, how colours work together and how different weaving techniques change the surface. The building itself is also a landmark of modern Baku. If you plan to visit the galleries, check the current programme and admission arrangements before setting out.
